Had some new teams this year. Tully and Stockbridge Valley joined us and Mohawk this year. Another change, we played each team 3 games instead of 2. Day started off pretty rough, no referees!!! So we decided to play with out them and it went surprisingly well. We did end up with 2 refs by the middle of the day. Played well through our first 6 games of the day and needed to beat Tully 2 of out of the 3 games. We split the first 2 games and lost 20-25 in the third. It was great effort in the last 2 games, but communication problems, in the end, hurt us.
On a non-volleyball note, after this Christmas, my son now own every plastic battery operated toy ever made - THANKS GRANDMA!!!!

Traveled to DeRuyter
On the road today/tonight. Traveled to DeRuyter to take on the 5-1 Rockets. Came out on top 3-0. Slow start in set one, but rallied to a 25-23 win thanks to Sam's strong serving late in the set. In fact that little run of serves received the majority of the votes from her teammates for the Emerald Knight Highlight of the Night.
We will be off until the 28th for a much needed rest. I think everyone is looking forward to a few days of doing nothing. When we come back we will have a couple of days of practice and then we will be hosting the 7th annual Battle in the Blizzard VB tournament on the 30th. A couple more days off, one practice then back at it on January 4th.
Special congrats to sophomore Hannah S. for answering a bit of Hamilton VB trivia. The questions was "What is the significance of the DeRuyter Gym in Hamilton VB History?" Her guess "It's where you coached your first match" CLOSE ENOUGH! The DeRuyter gym was the location of the first ever Hamilton Varsity VB match which was played on Dec. 5th, 2001. Note: We didn't exactly win that night.
Good Night

Here We Go!
I figure it's about time to jump on the blogging band wagon. I will primarily be using this blog to post updates and information on our Emerald Knights Volleyball program.
The 2009-10 year is off to great start. As of this posting the team is 6-1 with victories over Sauquoit, Cooperstown and Mt. Markham.
One of the changes for this year is the addition of the Emerald Knight Highlight. Each match the team votes on that one thing that made the match memorable. Without going back to do all of them, I will say that our Emerald Knight Highlight - Highlight of the year went to Valaya as she served the last 3 points in our victory over Cooperstown just one day after losing her father to cancer.
Valaya has been one of our starters over the last 3 years, and moved today to be with her family down south. We wish "V" the best of luck, as she will be missed not only on the court but in the halls of HCS. V leaves HCS holding the team record for most digs in a season with 165.
